Happy Friday from CYCHI!
This week’s “give a year, change the world” episode was one for the books, and don’t worry if you missed it live we’ve got it right here for your viewing pleasure. Although Ms. Crawford, principal at the Harvard School of Excellence, was unable to make the show, guest Primo Lasana and host Andre Spencer held it down for entire episode (they got quite a few shout-outs, too!).
Speaking of shout-outs, we had what was quite possibly our best call of the season on Wednesday night’s episode. A teacher from Paul Robeson High School called to give a huge appreciation to the corps member serving in his classroom, Amanda Rosario. The call definitely reminds us all of why City Year is so special and the service we do so vital.
Check out this fun and uplifting episode! Have a great weekend!
Hello CYCHI Blog Community!
There’s only two episodes of CAN-TV left in the season so we’re going to make them count! For tonight’s episode we have two very special guests joining us, Ms. Amabel Crawford, principal at the Harvard School of Excellence, and Primo Lasana, corps member on the Alter Group team serving at Harvard. Ms. Crawford is one of the BIGGEST supporters of City Year Chicago, and we’re lucky to have her leading our partnership at Harvard. Check out what she has to say about City Year tonight at 6 p.m. on channel 21.
Don’t forget to call in if you have any questions for the guests! The call-in number is 312-738-1060!
To give you a preview of what’s ahead check out this video featuring Ms. Crawford.
Great news, blog readers! We have a double feature for this week’s Montage Monday. First up is the latest episode of “give a year, change the world” on CAN-TV. I had the pleasure of interviewing two of CYCHI’s hardest working ladies — corps member Andrea Serrano and senior corps member and team leader Glenna Mowry. Andrea serves at Collins Academy High School which was one of the contending schools in the “Get Schooled, Get Motivated” challenge. While team leader Glenna Mowry shares with us her unique story of what led her to join City Year Chicago. Check it out!
After watching CAN-TV, give our latest slide show a peek. The Alter Group team sent in some awesome pictures of their VIP Lounge and “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” themed ISAT Prep Rally. Fun!
City Year's Alter Group Team and their students!
It’s a sunny Friday here in Chicago and we’ve got a brand new episode of CAN-TV to get your weekend off to an “ideal” start!
This week we’re featuring corps members Alisha Ranadive and Robert Reed. Rob shares his experiences working in a high school and Alisha gives the audience a glimpse into the world of attendance coordinating at the Sherman School of Excellence.
Give it a read. Pass it along.
Enjoy the weekend!
Two CAN-TV posts in one week?? Yep.
Your Friday wouldn’t be complete without checking out the latest episode of “give a year, change the world” on CAN-TV. This week’s episode featured Tim Nystrand, City Year Chicago alum who is now working on completing his teacher residency with the Academy of Urban School Leadership at Orr Academy High School in the West Garfield Park community. Tim shares about his experience serving last year at the Howe School of Excellence, and his interaction with the City Year team serving this year at Orr.
The evening’s second guest is Abhishek Dhar a corps member serving on the CSX team at the Dulles School of Excellence. Dhar is the after school coordinator on his team. He shares with us the unique role he plays in planning the clubs and activities that keep the Dulles middle schoolers coming back day after day.
Check it out. Pass it along.
Enjoy the weekend!
Happy Monday to all our City Year Chicago blog readers!
For today’s Monday Montage we’re going to do something a little different. To continue our coverage of the Gensler remodel of the City Year room at Paul Robeson High School we’re posting the recent “give a year, change the world” CAN-TV episode. Our special guests for the episode were Susan Harrington from Genlser and John Lalomio, a corps member serving at Robeson.
Check out the episode to a behind the scenes understanding of all the work that went into creating an awesome space for the CY team and students at Robeson.
We’re almost half way done with this year’s batch of CAN-TV episodes, and we’ve only posted one episode here on the CYCHI blog. It’s time for us to play catch up!
Check out Wednesday’s episode featuring Molly Driggers, corps member on the Deloitte team serving at Orr Academy High School in Chicago’s West Garfield Park community. Listen and watch as Molly talks to host Daniel Ready about her position as Events Coordinator at Orr. The second guest is none other than Kenneth Woods, senior corps member and team leader at the Johnson School of Excellence in the North Lawndale community. Ken talks about the sometimes challenging, but always fulfilling role of team leader.
Give it a look! Pass it along! Happy Friday to all of our readers!
