Last week on Wednesday, March 14, the whole-wide world celebrates Pi Day and City Year Chicago corps members and students were no exception!
Across several of City Year Chicago’s partner schools, corps members and teachers put a fun new spin on an old math stand-by. Actitivities for the day of celebration ranged from special Morning Greeting signs made to welcome the students to school and explain the meaning behind Pi Day, to after school activities using hula hoops to measure the circumference and the diameter of a circular to determine the ratio between these two lengths being none other than Pi! At one school even, students got the chance to “pie” school teachers, administrators and corps members if they successfully answered a pi math problem!
